Bangla Bandh Today: The Bharatiya Janata Party has called for a bandh today, August 28 2024 in West Bengal. As per reports, the bandh will be for 12 hours from 6 am to 6 pm in protest against police brutality towards protesting students against the recent rape and murder case at RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata. The protest held by students on Tuesday turned violent as clashes broke out between the police and protestors during the Nabanna Abhijan march in Howrah and Kolkata. 

West Bengal Bandh Today: Are Schools and Colleges Closed?

While the BJP has urged schools, colleges, and businesses to remain closed today, no official confirmation has been provided. As per reports, the ruling Trinamool Congress has denounced the decision of a bandh claiming it was aimed at creating chaos. Despite the bandh, government offices, banks, schools, and colleges are expected to remain open.

If the bandh proceeds as planned, public transport will likely be disrupted and educational institutions may remain closed. An official confirmation has yet to be issued. Students and parents are advised to check with the respective school administration regarding updates on the closure of schools.

Bangla Bandh Today: What will remain open?

As per reports, schools, colleges, government offices and banks are likely to remain open today. However, there are chances of functions being disrupted due to the bandh affecting traffic. Essential services including public transportation, medical care, and railways will also function normally. Business organisations have been asked to keep markets closed, however, the government has stated that normalcy will be maintained and nothing will be officially closed due to the bandh.
