CBSE issues notification for schools to celebrate National Education Day

The Central Board of Secondary Education has asked all its affiliated schools to observe the National Education Day on November 11, 2019. CBSE which has close to 20,000 affiliated schools in India and abroad, has asked its schools to celebrate the occasion commemorating the birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad who was India’s first Union Minister of Education.

The central board has asked the schools to conduct National Education Day by organizing seminars, symposia, essay writing competitions, elocution competitions, workshops and rallies with banners cards and slogans raising the importance of education and the country’s commitment to it in all aspects. The board has also asked the schools to promote the celebration on social media platforms with #cbseend.

Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad was responsible for setting education bodied like AICTE and UGC and apart from these, institutions like the IIT’s, IISC and the School of Architecture and Planning were his creations.

Even though he did not receive any formal schooling he was well versed in Urdu, Persian, Arabic, and Hindi. He was also known to be a scholar of mathematics, philosophy, world history, and science.

Maulana Azad was also a prominent journalist in his time and was a part of the Indian Nationalist Movement. He advocated for free and compulsory education for children up to the age of 14 years. Since he understood that Indian was a nation with a huge cultural spectrum and it was the need to have educated citizens participating in the task of nation-building.

CBSE releases Handbooks for teachers and students

The Central Board of Secondary Education has also released separate handbooks for students and teachers of the CBSE schools. The handbook was released by the Union HRD Minister on November 1, 2019. The link to download the handbooks is also available on the official website of the board.
