CUET UG 2027: Exam Subject Limit May Be Reduced, New Grouping System Likely to Be Introduced
CUET 2027 is likely to change for the upcoming examination. New subject combinations and other changes to be introduced.
The Common Undergraduate Entrance Test 2027 is likely to go through certain changes for the upcoming session. As per reports, the duration of the exam is likely to be reduced, with subjects shortened and a new grouping system to help students complete theur UG entrance exam in a single day.
According to media reports, the Minister of Education, University Grants Commission and the National Testing Agency are collaborating to form an approach helping to streamline the entire exam cycle.
As per the suggested proposal, the duration of individual papers is to be shortened, enabling students with five subjects to complete all the tests within 180 to 200 minutes. Officials are also reportedly considering reducing the number of subjects from the existing five to four.
As per reports, senior officials of the education ministry, UGC and NTA recently discussed the suggested reforms and have asked other officials to assess the ways to simplify the exam while keeping universities' admission processes intact.
Subject Grouping by Common Combinations
The main change likely to be introduced is to make subject groups based on commonly chosen combinations. This will help NTA arrange related papers together, allowing candidates to complete the exams in one sitting or at least on the same day.
Groups will be created around eligibility rules followed by universities. Students interested in pursuing Physics Hons, for example, can choose the relevant three-subject combination instead of appearing for papers which are not significant to the course.
Grouping may help lower the number of exam days and make scheduling easier, as per reports. It is also expected to solve student issues of commuting on different exam days for different subjects.
CUET UG 2027
CUET is conducted for admissions to undergraduate programmes offered at central universities and other colleges accepting CUET UG scores. For the previous session, NTA completed the CUET UG application process from January 3 to February 4, 2026. The same will likely be followed this year, and the application process will open around the same time this year. Candidates who wish to secure admission to the undergraduate degree programmes offered in central universities, affiliated colleges and other colleges must prepare themselves for the entrance examination.
