Punjab University has presented of DAV College, Chandigarh Sector 10 with the award for the best NSS Unit for the second consecutive year. A good number of students taking admission to the college every year enrol themselves in the Unit. Dr Pawan Kumar Sharma, Principal, DAV college, has congratulated all the members of the Unit and also said that the NSS Unit of the college has been very active since its establishment in 1958. He also mentioned that the services provided by the Unit towards the society are in the lines of the work done by Swami Dayanand which teaches the students to be better human beings.
A number of state and national activities and camps are being organised by the NSS unit along with adopting village Dhanas. The NSS program officer, Suman Kapur said that the college accepts all the tasks assigned by State NSS cell of UT Chandigarh and completes the same with great passion. The NSS unit of DAV college undertook several activities this year which included anti-malaria campaign , awareness of poshan (good nutrition) scheme, green marathon, anti-drug campaign, participation in workshop on traffic rules , cleanliness drive etc. Besides, several students also participated in the Seven Days Seven Night component of the Unit where students resided in the college campus for a week and participated in several social activities.
The NSS Unit also has a 24 hour helpline and WhatsApp group that caters to the needs such as emergency blood donation services for victims in PGI, Fortis and Government hospitals in the town as told by Dr. Kulvir Sra Dhindsa, another program officer. The Unit also observes all the National and International days in the campus and also undertakes active participation in the Swachhat Bharat Abhiyan through rallies, street plays and poster competition around campus and the adopted village Dhanas as shared by a third program officer, Dr. Raman Kamboj.
The students in the unit also claim to have learnt a sufficient deal on various issues such as health, environment, national security etc. while attending these seminars and workshops during the camps. The students believe that the unit will always be an integral part of their lives.
