Schools and Anganwadi centers in Dehradun are closed today due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit for the inauguration of the 38th National Games. The Dehradun District Magistrate announced this closure under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, to ensure smooth arrangements for the visit.
An official notice stated that January 28, 2025, has been declared a one-day holiday for all educational institutions in the district. The Chief Education Officer and District Program Officer have been instructed to ensure this order is followed across schools and Anganwadi centers.
Prime Minister Modi’s schedule is busy. He will start his day by inaugurating the Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 in Bhubaneswar at 11 AM. In the evening, at 6 PM, he will travel to Dehradun for the opening of the 38th National Games, a significant event marking Uttarakhand's Silver Jubilee year.
The 38th National Games will be held across 11 cities in 8 districts of Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14, 2025. Athletes from 36 states and one union territory will compete in 35 sports, with medals awarded in 33 categories and two exhibition sports.
For the first time, Yoga and Mallakhamb have been included in the games. Over 10,000 athletes will participate, making it one of the largest sports events in the country.
The theme of this year’s games is "Green Games," focusing on sustainability. A Sports Forest will be created near the venue, with over 10,000 saplings being planted by athletes and dignitaries. Medals and certificates will also be made from eco-friendly, biodegradable materials, in line with the green initiative.
