Delhi University’s 97th Convocation Held: As per the latest update, the University of Delhi held its 97th Convocation Ceremony in a hybrid format i.e. a mix of both online and offline ceremony, on Saturday – 27th February 2021. The varsity created a unique record at its 97th Convocation by awarding 1,76,790 Digital Degrees simultaneously to students of various undergraduate and postgraduate courses via a single click. On Saturday, Delhi University became the first educational institution in the country to award the highest number of degrees digitally.
Convocation Ceremony Attended by Education Minister
Among other highlights of the 97th Convocation Ceremony of Delhi University, the event was officially graced by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ as the chief guest. At the event, 156 students were awarded medals and 36 others were felicitated with awards by Union Education Minister. Over 600 doctoral degrees and 44 DM/M CH degrees were also awarded in person during the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Pokhriyal highlighted the various works undertaken by the DU and the initiatives taken during the coronavirus crisis. Education Minister also appreciated varsity’s efforts under the ‘Vidya Vistar Scheme’ under which Delhi University is supporting educational institutions located in the remote areas. The Union minister also talked about the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
1,76,790 Digital Degrees Awarded Simultaneously
At the convocation event, Delhi University’s acting Vice Chancellor PC Joshi said that "It is for the first time, not only in the history of DU but all universities, that with a click of a button, nearly 1,80,000 students received their Bachelors/Master degrees in various disciplines in their mail. This is a historic step for all of us.” Highlighting University’s efforts and achievements during the last year, Mr Joshi said that being a "pandemic year", the institute has emerged as a front-runner in setting new hallmarks in the field of education -- be it making a smooth transition to online mechanisms, digital learning, conducting open book examinations or having contactless admissions.
