According to the latest reports, under the Delhi state Government’s Education Mentoring Programme launched, over 200 students from Indira Gandhi Delhi Technological University for Women will be mentoring 1000 girl students from government schools in Delhi from class 9 to 12.
Youth for Education initiative
The Education Mentoring Programme was launched by the Delhi State Government through its ‘Youth for Education’ initiative focusing on mentoring girls studying from class 9 to 12. According to the initiative, initially, about 200 students from the B.Tech, M.Tech, PhD and MBA programmes from the university will be mentoring 1000 school students, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia stated. He further pointed out that the world is becoming a knowledge economy and with dedicated research and innovation it will quickly become a key to progress.
Participation of Women in STEM
He also stated that although the nation is seeing some major innovations in every girl these innovations are ked by men and the participation of women is disappointing especially in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. He also added that the Education Mentoring Programme will help the Delhi Government empower students from Delhi in the fields of STEM. The government wants the students especially girls to receive the right guidance to help them to build sustainable innovations and it is the vision of the government that the girls equally dominate the STEM sector.
The Education Mentoring Programme will facilitate for each mentor for the university to guide fivw girls studying in Grades 9 to 12 clearing their doubts related to careers in STEM, sharing strategies for clearing entrance exams, supporting access to learning resources and motivating the students in the transition from school to college and careers.
