With just two days for the second phase of COVID-19 lockdown to end, the Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur has conducted the trimester examinations for the first-year students in the online mode. Although earlier, the institute had decided on postponing the examination, it later resorted to conducting the examinations in the digital mode. Out of the 270 students in the batch, approximately 60 percent of the students opted to appear for the online examinations. The institution has however informed that those students who couldn't attend the online examinations due to issues like internet connectivity will be able to appear for the offline examinations which will be conducted by the institute.
Trimester exams conducted in evening Hours
Students who attempted the examinations were given the option to appear for the exams while they are at home. With the students attending digital internships, the examination was conducted by the institute in the evening in order to make sure that there are minimal interruptions.
The institute had set a tentative date for conducting the examinations in July 2020, but given the situation presently, there is no clarity on when the examinations will be conducted. A spokesperson from the institute has stated that the question papers for the online and offline examinations will be set by the same faculty and the difficulty level for both will be at par.
For the calculation of marks, the normalization process will be used which is used usually for the IIM Entrance Examination
Other institutions like IIM Calcutta and IIM Ahmedabad have started with the new catch in the online mode. The classes for these students are being conducted online. The institutions will reopen after the lockdown is lifted. The UGC has suggested that the institutions can reopen by August for the enrolled students while the classes can begin from September for the new batch of students.
