Fake FMGE Certificate Racket: The Maharashtra Cyber Police have busted an alleged racket providing fake Foreign Medical Graduate Examination FMGE certificates and other forged documents to foreign medical graduates who failed the screening exam required to practice medicine in India. As per media reports, three people have been arrested so far and have been remanded to judicial custody until October 19.
According to reports, of the three arrested, two are FMGs, and one is a key operative of the interstate network. The first two accused are FMG applicants who failed to clear the exam from Buldhana district. The arrested have been identified as Varun Prataprao Akhade (28), Sanket Prabhakar Unhale (26) and Rahul Gopal Patil (35).
Reports also suggest that the fake certificate network came to light after a manager with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), lodged a complaint after documents submitted by certain candidates during the online registration process were found to be suspicious. The accused had allegedly targeted foreign medical graduates who failed the FMGE Screening test and provided them with fake FMGE scorecards, provisional medical registration certificates, internship completion certificates, and other documents to help them obtain a medical registration in India.
The police also mentioned that forged documents were prepared for candidates, and during questioning, it was found that the accused charged between Rs. 20 Lakh and Rs. 25 Lakh per candidate for preparing the forged documents, including Aadhaar and PAN cards, Voter IDs, Class 10 and 12 certificates, passport copies, degree apostille documents, internship completion certificates, caste and domicile certificates, bonafide certificates and other documents.
The police also suspect that the accused made arrangements to provide fake internship certificates and obtain permanent medical registration for candidates.
With the network now busted, it was revealed that fake documents for 16 foreign medical graduates who failed the FMGE exams were prepared. The accused provided them with forged documents, scorecards, provisional medical registration certificates, internship completion certificates, etc.
According to reports, the login profiles of candidates who failed to clear the FMGE exam were checked, and it was found that fake and suspicious documents were uploaded in the profiles of 22 candidates, following which the cyber police were approached.
In the complaint filed by the MMC Registrar, it has also been alleged that the accused candidates created or uploaded forged and suspicious documents through the FMG Online Portal. The Medical Council, during the verification, identified more than 30 candidates. The Nodal cyber police station is conducting an investigation into the alleged forgery, unauthorised access and use of the online registration system.
