JEE Main Language Row: Mamata Banerjee’s TMC held rallies across the state of West Bengal on Monday, protesting against the JNU language row. The rallies where held by Trinamool Congress to highlight the bais exercised by the central government against regional language in conducting the JEE Main Engineering Entrance Exam. Earlier in the month, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised the issue regarding JEE Main 2020 Exam being only conducted in Gujarati among all other regional languages.
Mamata backed Protest
Last week, Mamata Banerjee announced that her party Trinamool Congress will hold state-wide protests on 11th November 2019 against bias against other regional languages. In line with this, TMC supports held state-wide protests demanding that Bengali should also be included in the list of regional languages in which JEE Main engineering entrance exam is conducted. As part of the protest rallies, TMC also held a rally at Mayo Road area in central Kolkata today. The rally was attended by Senior TMC leader and nephew of Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee.
Areas Hit by Cyclone Bulbul Excluded
TMC excluded the areas which are hit by Cyclone Bulbul from the state-wide protest against JEE Main Language Row. TMC party workers were involved in relief and rehabilitation work in the cyclone hit areas, and therefore protests rallies were not held in those states.
NTA issues Clarification
Last week, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on BJP led Central Government for inclusion of only Gujarati language in the JEE (Main) examination. She demanded that other regional langauges should also get an equal representation when it comes to national level entrance examinations. She claimed that state governments were not consulted for inclusion of regional languages for JEE Main Exam. In response to the charge, National Testing Agency (NTA) which conducts the entrance exam has issued a clarification stating that only Gujarat State Government approached the apex testing agency for inclusion of Gujarati as a medium of testing for JEE Main exam.
