Karnataka School Reopening Update: With COVID-19 numbers stabilizing slightly across the country, Karnataka State Government is considering the idea to reopen schools in the state soon. Media reports coming from the state has hinted that the state government is mulling the idea to permit reopening of schools in the state from next week onwards. The final decision in this regard is likely to be taken by the state government on coming Saturday, when COVID-19 review meeting is scheduled to be held.
The decision to reopen schools in Karnataka is partly based on other states including Maharashtra and Haryana, deciding to reopen schools in the light drop in Omicron cases. On the other hand, students and parents remain divided on the issue of Karnataka School Reopening with many asking the government to prioritize safety of the students while others are highlighting the educational loss being incurred by the students owing to school closures.
Phased Reopening of Schools Likely
Even if the state government decides to reopen schools in Karnataka, it likely to follow a cautious approach and allow phased reopening of educational institutions. For now, the state government might allow schools to reopen for offline classes and physical learning for only 3 days in the week. Furthermore, the state government might prioritize reopening of schools for students of higher classes, given that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19. However, final decision and necessary details and guidelines in this regard are expected to be released in coming days.
COVID-19 Case Positivity Rate Dips in Karnataka
The state government mulling the idea of reopening schools in the state comes following drop in COVID-19 case numbers and improvement in the positivity rate witnessed by the state. As per the numbers shared by the State Health Department, Karnataka has reported 48,905 new Covid-19 cases and 39 deaths on Wednesday. On similar lines, the overall positivity rate for COVID-19 cases in the state has dropped to 22.51% from 26.70% on Tuesday.
