LSR College Reopens Offline Classes Following Brief Online Shift After Kalkaji Gang-Rape Incident

Lady Shri Ram College: Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) in New Delhi has decided to conduct offline classes from Thursday, September 24, 2026, after transitioning to online classes due to two distressing occurrences near the campus. Following the recent incident , the college authorities have decided to hold classes online until Thursday, September 24, 2026. This decision came into light on Tuesday, September 22 as a safety measure after the two events took place near the campus of LSR.

The cause of the increased tension arose due to the reported case of gang rape of a 17-year-old girl at the Aastha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir. Later on, an encounter with the accused individual took place at a distance of 50 meters from the back entrance of LSR in Amar Colony.

Key Highlights of the Incident 

• Details of the Incident: A girl child was sexually harassed by three people claiming themselves to be cops in Aastha Kunj Park. All three of the prime accused have been arrested by the Delhi Police. 

• Encounter Outside the Campus: One of the prime accused was wounded in his leg while having a shooting encounter with the police near the rear entrance gate of LSR Amar Colony. 

• Preventive Step of Moving Online: The Principal of LSR, Kanika K. Ahuja, declared a break in classes from Tuesday evening to Wednesday for the safety of students. 

• Restarting of Regular Classes: The management of LSR made an official announcement about restarting the classes offline on Thursday, September 24th. 

• Demand of the Students: The Students Union of LSR held an emergency meeting and protest march for increased safety measures around the college.

What Did The Officials Say?

In response to the Kalkaji gang rape case and the ensuing police action near the campus, emphasis on student safety and immediate security measures was seen in official statements. In this regard, Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) Principal, Kanika K. Ahuja, said that the safety and security of the students and their overall well-being are of utmost importance. She added that mentors and counselors for the students had been arranged by the college administration. Additionally, the college administration worked with the Amar Colony police station to arrange additional patrols near the college premises, especially the back gate area and adjacent parks.
