Age Criteria Excluded for Calculation of Toppers
With three students or candidate scoring same i.e. 720 marks in the NEET 2021 exam, NTA had to use the tie-breaking formula to decide the All India Ranks issued to them. Going by the previous trend, there are different levels to the tie-breaking criteria and the final step in the process involves considering age criteria factor. However, through the latest notification NTA has clarified that it has not used the 'age criteria' for the purpose of ranking.
Age Criteria Considered for Counselling Ranks
The official notice released by NTA in this regards notes that the first All India Rank for Counselling has been given to the candidate, without deploying the tie-breaking criteria of age. But, in order to streamline counselling process, it is important for students to get unique ranks to avoid any discrepancies later on. Taking that into account, the second All India Rank for Counselling also considers the tie-breaking criteria of age. The notice adds "Accordingly, the first ‘All India Rank for Counseling’ is without the tie-breaking criteria of age. However, since for the purpose of counseling unique ranks are required, the second ‘All India Rank for Counseling’ also takes into account the tiebreaking criteria of age."
