Punjab Govt Announces College, University Vacations: Media reports have confirmed that Punjab Government has announced vacations for all educational institutions in the state, including universities and colleges from 15th May 2020 to 15th June 2020. The news was reported by ANI News agency. According to the news agency, the state government has decided to announce month-long vacations for all government educational institutions in the state, starting from 15th May 2020. Following the media reports, the official twitter handle of Government of Punjab also confirmed the news with tweet which said “The Punjab Government has decided to declare summer vacation in Government Colleges and Universities of the state from May 15 to June 15.”
Vacation Order Applicable to Government Institutions Only
According to the reports, the order of month-long vacation period for the universities and colleges is applicable only for government educational institutions. This means, students who are enrolled at any government college or government-aided colleges as well as state government funded universities, will have vacations from 15th May 2020 to 15th June 2020.
Universities, Colleges Already Closed
It is important to note that that all higher education institutions in Punjab state have been closed now for nearly two months due to the nationwide lockdown announced to curb the spread of COVID-19. During this period, teachers and faculty members have been conducting online classes for students to ensure that they do not suffer any major academic loss due to the lockdown.
As part of the online learning initiatives of Punjab Government, 'Ambassadors of Home' garnered participation of over 1 lakh students. Recently, Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla informed media persons that over one lakh children participated an eight-day-long online video competition, setting a new world record. Mr Sangla also added that the campaign engaged around 2.5 crore people on social media.
