SC Hearing on CBSE / ICSE 12th Exam 2021: As per the latest update, the Supreme Court’s special bench which was hearing a PIL filed seeking cancellation of CBSE 12th Exam 2021 has directed CBSE and CISCE Boards to finalize the Evaluation Criteria for compilation of Class 12 Results within two weeks. During today’s hearing, the SC bench led by Justice AM Khanwilkar gave CBSE and CISCE two weeks of time to come up with alternative evaluation criteria to assess students. This comes following PM Modi’s announcement about cancellation of CBSE 12th Exam 2021 in the light of the 2nd wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
Two Weeks’ Time to Finalize Evaluation Criteria
During today’s hearing on the PIL about CBSE 12th Exam Cancellation, the central government informed the apex court that in the interest of welfare and safety of the students, the government has already cancelled the exam. Following this, the apex court asked the board about the evaluation criteria that will be followed for marking the students now. In response to this, Attorney General informed that CBSE would take a decision on evaluation criteria in three weeks.
The Counsel for ICSE has also informed that they have a committee of experts with statisticians to arrive at an objective criterion as soon as possible. AG had sought four weeks’ time to decide the evaluation criteria However, SC replied that four weeks would delay the process if students want to apply abroad for their education and therefore only granted two weeks’ time for the same.
Plea filed Seeking Cancellation of State Board Exams
With the Board exams for central board’s i.e. CBSE and CISCE already cancelled now, another plea has been filed before the apex court seeking direction to state boards and union territories for cancellation of their respective board exams. The fresh plea has been filed by Advocate Anubha Srivastava. The fresh plea filed has sought apex court’s intervention to ensure that parity is maintained by the state board with the decision on class 12 board exams.
