Tamil Nadu School Reopening News: As per the latest update, the Tamil Nadu State Government decided against reopening of schools in the state from 21st Sept 2020 – Monday by saying that on shift-based classes would be allowed in the schools. State Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan hinted that there would not be any phased reopening in schools across Tamil Nadu. Simply put, Education Minister has said that schools across the state for all classes would reopen simultaneously once the pandemic situation is under the control of the state.

No Shift Based Classes

Going by the statement issued by the Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan, the state government has decided against shift-based classes or staggered class routines when schools reopen across the state. He also said that whenever decision to reopen schools will be taken, all the classes would start functioning simultaneously. He also added that "All classes will start functioning simultaneously when schools reopen in the state. There will not be classes in a shift, as all the schools have adequate infrastructure.” Mr Sengottaiyan also said that all schools are equipped with sufficient numbers of classrooms to ensure the social distancing norms.

40% Syllabus Reduced by State Government

Schools in the state have been closed for nearly 6 months now since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in the state. Following the announcement of lockdown, the state government had announced reduction in the overall school syllabus by nearly 40% to reduce the burden on school children. Simultaneously, the state government also launched classes through its Television channel for Education and various private and aided schools had switched to the online mode of teaching students. This was done with an aim to ensure continued learning for the school students. All these efforts have ensured that students do not suffer during the lockdown period.
