Varanasi’s Shubham Kumar Tops JEE Advanced 2026, Says Conceptual Understanding Makes all the Difference

Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Roorkee, has released the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Advanced 2026 Result. Shubham Kumar of Varanasi has topped the high-stakes examination by scoring 330 out of 360 marks. He had been placed at AIR 6 in the qualifying JEE Main 2026 examination.

Belonging to the IIT Delhi zone, Shubham dreams of pursuing B. Tech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay. As for his success mantra, he believes that conceptual understanding is the key that makes all the difference in examinations like JEE Advanced.

Family

Shubham hails from Varanasi. His father, Mr Shivkumar, is a businessman and his mother, Kanchan Devi, is a homemaker. For the longest time, Shubham has dreamt of making it to the IITs and making a career for himself in computer science. Academically gifted, he had scored 98.5 per cent marks in Class 10.

Even in the JEE Main examination, Shubham had scored excellent marks and secured AIR 6 with 295 out of 300 marks. Taking this a step further, he has now cracked one of the toughest examinations in the country with 330 out of 360.

Key to Success

In an interview, Shubham Kumar pointed out that it was all about working consistently and correcting your mistakes. He worked on the errors that he had in various mock tests and examinations. He shared how after every mock test, he would analyse his performance and not only correct his mistakes but also rework his strategy for the examination.

Focusing on his weak subjects, Shubham followed the approach of 'try and try till you succeed. He would constantly seek guidance from his teachers, practice the questions he had gotten wrong and remain disciplined in his self-study. A schedule of 6 to 8 hours of studies daily helped him further propel his dream.
