Staff Selection Commission invited applicants to apply for Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination for 2015. The Commission would select candidates for the LDC (Lower Division Clerk) and DEO (Data Entry Operator) posts who would work on various government offices.

Staff Selection Commission invited applicants to apply for Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination for 2015. The Commission would select candidates for the LDC (Lower Division Clerk) and DEO (Data Entry Operator) posts who would work on various government offices. The candidates need to go through written test, descriptive test and skill/practical test in order to finally get selected for the posts. The written exam consists of four papers namely English Language, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness. The candidates would have to solve 200 questions in 2 hours’ time. They need to be very fast and accurate in their approach while answering the questions. All the papers need to be given equal prominence as the candidates would be judged based on marks attained in all the papers separately.

Important Topics:

The English Language paper of the written examination consists of questions related to Basic English grammar and comprehension. The English Language questions are majorly from board level and include basics of the language. Those candidates who have a strong base in the language could score real well in the paper and do that real quick, to save precious time during the examination. The paper includes questions related to spotting of errors, filling the blanks and detection of mis-spelt words. The most commonly repeating questions in the paper are from synonyms, antonyms, idioms & phrases, one word substitutions, active/passive voice use of verbs, direct to indirect sentences which belong to basic English grammar knowledge. The candidates are tested for their sentence making ability and its understanding as well. The questions related to improvement of sentences, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage etc. are there to test the sentence formation skills of the candidates. In order to test the reading comprehension skills there are comprehension passages and questions related to the passage that are asked to the candidates.

Tips for English Language:

  • The best way to prepare for the paper is to get back to the basics of the language and revise whatever you have read in the past. The English grammar is the key for this paper as most of the questions in the paper are somehow related with it. Thus preparing and making it your strong point can really turn out to be helpful.
  • Reading and writing practice are key elements to succeed in the paper. The more you read the more you grapple the language and more you attain command over it. Thus it would be of great help to develop a habit of reading and chalking out new sentences and words from there.
  • Practice from the previous year practice sets, mock papers and other study material available online or offline. This would give a proper idea of the kind of questions that might come your way and prepare you for the exam.
  • Try and approach the questions with confidence and do not get carried away by the multiple options available in the questions.
  • Try and make a huge repository of words and make your vocabulary as strong as you can through using various techniques of remembering the same. The more you remember the words with its consequent meaning the more the language would become easier.
