Calicut University is all set to take preventive measures to curb malpractices and exam frauds. In order to prevent imposters to get into the examination hall and take exams for someone else the University has asked the students to carry another identity document with their photo identity, like Aadhar card, passport or their voter IDs along with their hall tickets.
Vice Chancellor M. Abdul Salam said, “Students will have to produce both the hall tickets and the additional ID card whenever an invigilator demands it. Additional safeguards have been put in place after a youth was arrested for impersonation and writing exam on behalf of another student at an exam centre in Tenhipalam recently.”
The university has asked its affiliated colleges as well to install CCTV cameras in the exam control room, recording all the activities inside the examination halls. These cameras would take into account that how the question papers are getting handled and their safety would be taken into consideration before they get despatched to the students in the examination.
The university previously had provision for cancelling the papers written by the guilty student and the students could get expelled for next two examinations. But the punishment got reduced to cancelling the particular examination where the students found guilty and charging a fine upto Rs. 2500 from the student.
Controller of the Examinations at university of Calicut V V Georgekutty said, “If it is found that colleges affiliated to Calicut University are involved in exam malpractices or have lapses in curbing them, we may cancel the examination centre there.”
