Radio Jockey is not looked upon as a mainstream career option by many; do you think this perception has changed in the recent times?
Radio Jockey is a niche profession and will always be one until there is proper awareness among the students and parents about the field and the perks and benefits it offers as a career option. But in the recent times, with youngsters looking for more interesting and creative professions, Radio Jockeying has definitely emerged as one of the lucrative options in the off-beat career opportunities.
Does one really need to have a good voice for becoming an RJ or good sense of humour to become an RJ?
Definitely, good and clear voice is one of the key skills that are required in a RJ, but it is not the only one. As you mentioned, good sense of humour and the ability to interact and connect with audiences also matter a lot to become a successful Radio Jockey.
What are the key skills that one must possess to become an RJ?
There are several skills that make a successful Radio Jockey, but we can look a few key skills that are a must for a RJ. Apart from the ones that we discussed earlier, Radio Jockeys have to be super creative in order to make conversations interesting. On top of that they need to stay updated with all the latest news and happenings; be it at the local, national or international level. Finally, the most important skill or quality for a Radio Jockey would be presence of mind; because you are managing a live show and interacting with audiences who might not always behave in the same way that you expect them to. Therefore, one has to show exceptional presence of mind and manage conversations in a calm, composed and mature manner while keeping them interesting and engaging.
