Moreover, students are aware enough of different specialisations and courses in engineering domain, however, in case of a career in medicine, they are aware of prominent options only such as cardiologist, neurosurgeon, physician, nursing, dentists etc. In this article, we have listed out different career options in medicine domain, medical courses as well as eligibility and career prospects.
Course options in medicine after Class 12 for science stream students –
The job of a Health Information Manager is to analyse and interpret health data, collect data about patients from hospitals, record and maintain the data, as well as maintain privacy and security of their data.
Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management (B. Sc. in HIM)– duration, of course, is three years and students will be required to undergo an internship for one year after completion of course.
As the technology has advanced and it’s been decades now that it is implemented in hospitals. MRIT is the complete use of technique/machinery for purpose of designing images of patients to analyse their body for diseases to diagnose the exact reason.
B. Sc in Medical Imaging Technology, B.Sc. in Radiography, B. Sc in MRIT –Students will be studying this specialisation for 8 semesters with an internship in the duration of courses only.

A Physiotherapist works toward prevention of health issues by using mechanical and manual therapy on the patients. They also research towards improvements of therapies on patients for their long-term benefits.
Bachelor of Physiotherapy – The students would be required to study physiotherapy for 4 years and also they will be undergoing internship in the duration of course only.
It deals with the study of radiation oncology for treatment of Cancer disease. A radiotherapist works with cancer patients, prescribes medicines, therapy, reviews their test results as well as follow-ups with patients to consult prevention therapies to avoid re-occurrence of the disease.
B.Sc in Radiotherapy Technology (RTT) – the course duration is 4 years with internships.
A nutritionist or dietitian is an expert who works towards consultation and regulating healthy diets for individuals. They also work with hospitals to plan and monitor diet charts of patients as required.
B.Sc Nutrition & Dietetics, BSc Home Science – Students are required to study this course for 3 years duration.
A speech or language pathologist or audiologist works towards treatment of speech, language, vocal issues in patients.
Bachelor of Science in Audiology, Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Therapy (BASL) – Students are required to study this specialisation for 4 years along with a 1-year internship in the course duration only.
A DTT plans therapy and prescribes medicines, also performs various dialysis on the patient as well as maintains a record of their medical treatment.
Bachelor of Science in Dialysis Therapy – students can study a 3-year or 4-year course in dialysis therapy.
Bachelor of Science in Optometry – The students will be required to study this course for 4 years.
Conclusion: For a career in medicine, students need to prepare themselves for studying the medical science with utmost interest as it deals with the human body. They need to understand the anatomy in order to make a successful career in their chosen stream. A student cannot become successful in this stream just by scoring marks in exam rather they will be required to devote their mind and body in studying and research as well regular practice in whichever specialisation they choose.
