The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to scrap the Problem Solving Assessment (PSA) test for classes IX and XI from the 2015-2016 academic year.
PSA was a logical reasoning exam that was introduced by the CBSE from 2012-2013 academic year for class IX and XI, with the purpose of testing the students' critical thinking abilities. The test was held in place of the Formative Assessment - IV. Marks scored in the PSA test in class IX were counted in class X as part of a summative assessment.
CBSE schools on friday received a circular from the board's controller of examination. It said, "The board has decided to do away with the conduct of PSA in classes IX & XI from the session 2015-16 and asked the schools to conduct the formative assessment IV for students who were in Class IX in 2014-2015 academic year and could not take the PSA or are desirous to improve their earlier scores. The higher marks of the two will be counted."
