From Ancient to modern days, there has never been a broad, complete and integrating platform where different viewpoints, discussions, and debates can be held. But, the '2016 Working Mother and AVTAR Best Companies For Women In India' project did little but a path breaking effort to fill this gap, too. It was the first time when a study on such a subject was organised in India. About 350 companies showed their willingness to participate. The study analysed and listed the companies which are making efforts for advancement of women's career. The 'Working Mother Media' and 'AVTAR' group jointly surveyed the companies using their resources. And The names of 100 best companies for working women, especially working mothers was announced at result of study, which was began on the very day of 'International Women's Day,'was announced on November 10,2016 in Mumbai,India. Here the top 10 ten of them.
It was prestigious moment for the company which appointed the women professionals on one-third of total new appointments. The maternity benefits and the support it provides to returning mothers jointly worked for its recognition. The company provides 22 weeks paid leaves and 4 weeks paid leaves if a woman employee falls ill due to pregnancy. In case adoption, the company provides 8 weeks paid leaves to look after the adopted child. And for new fathers, the company gives one week’s paternal leave.
Cummins India Limited
The Cummins India Limited is one of the company which designs and manufacturing engines generator sets, and others. The company joined the prestigious moments at Mumbai, increasing the women representation from seven percent to 30 percent in the total workforce at the company.
The company was included in the list following its several strategic initiatives that are specific to working women. The company provides opportunity to high-performing women professional to build their profile under senior leadership program. It offers formal flexible work options to its employees. Besides, giving 26 weeks paid maternity leaves to its women professionals, the Deloitte reimburses the expenses of expectant mothers.
The company runs a programme ‘MomEY’ to ensure employment for working mothers who takes break to look after their children. The candidate needs to apply under the programme within five years from leaving the company. Maternity coaching, transitional support are also offered to the mother expectants and others returning to the work. The day care facility si also provided within the premises of the company.
Hindustan Unilever Limited
The company offers enhanced maternity and paternity benefits, pre-school day care services, flexible-location policy, and flexible return to work are the features that attracted the focus of the study to company.
In ICICI, the women managers are facilitated to take their children and caretakers along-with them if they want so. The company not only offers 180 days of paid leaves but it provides additional childcare leaves, too. There is also the facility of work from home, especially for women professionals.
The company runs a leadership development programme naming Tanmatra. The programme gears to the unique and critical challenges which its employees, especially women professionals face.
Intel India Technology Limited
Company appointed around 28% women professionals last year. The company facilitates women employees returning from maternity with part-time work pattern. The women professional can take advantage of this up to one month.
The company has launched an app naming ‘MiLady.’ The app enables women professionals going on maternity leave to stay connected with organisation. The app updates facilitates rest members of the organisation to find out if there is any emergency with mother expectant.

The company offers tailored development programme, including orientation, technology training and informal lunch with seniors to its women employees under ‘Return To Work’ theme.
People Combine provides free lunch, transportation facilities and proper training programmes to 90% of its women professionals. Moreover, it runs a programme naming ‘Partial work Partial pay.’ It also offers its staff summer, winter, and autumn breaks.
Conclusion In the time when a woman doesn’t feel safe at any place outside home, there are 100 such workplaces where they, especially working mothers work comfortably. The '2016 Working Mother and AVTAR Best Companies for Women in India' project is a path-breaking initiative that will be helpful for creating women friendly environment into the organisations across the country.
