Delhi University Admissions 2017 delayed; expected to start in 2nd week of May

May 4, 2017, 12:37 IST

It was earlier reported that Delhi University will start the admission process by the end of April. But it could not be done due to administrational glitches. Find details here.

Delhi University admissions delayed to second week of May

Students who were looking forward to register themselves for their favourite Delhi University college will have to wait further as the admissions for 2017 have been delayed by two weeks. As per a prior update, there was information that the Delhi University will be starting the admission process earlier than every year to avoid rush during the final months of admission. But the same could not be achieved because of certain glitches which need to be taken care of before the admissions can be started.

Key intent behind starting the DU Admissions process earlier was to let students fill the form and upload documents in advance at their own ease. And once the board results are announced in May they would have just been required to fill their marks. However, the plans could not be executed and the students will now have to go through the ordeal in May itself.

Not the only change in the DU Admission process

Reports had earlier also suggested that the varsity was planning to hold entrance tests for every undergraduate course. However, the final decision was pending at University's Standing Committee on Admissions which was evaluating the scope of the nature of the exam (subjective or objective) and its weightage.

However, later on DU went back on its proposal in its response to the HRD ministry that it was not very feasible to do so. The entrance will now happen through old cut-off system with only exceptions being the courses which held entrances earlier also. This includes courses like: Courses like BMS, BBE, BBA, B.Tech, BA Humanities and Social Sciences, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of in Multimedia and Mass Communication and Bachelor Science in Physical Education.

DU Admissions to be based on Merit Based Cutoffs

Apart from this, DU will release a separate merit list candidates who have completed their class 12 board examination which is not accredited with Association of Indian Universities (AIU), University Grants Commission (UGC) or Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

Registration process will continue to happen online like last year. The students will be required to upload self-attested and scanned copies of their documents after following the instructions and then make the payment online.

Once the registration process starts, students will have to go on the official site of Delhi University and select course/college seats online and then register themselves by entering their email-id. Following this, they will 'signup' and enter all the required details in the prescribed format and submit the form.
