    Q. When does a social difference become a social division?

    Ans. Overlapping of different social differences leads to the gain of one particular prominence. This leads to formation of tension and social division.  For example, in Northern Ireland, the social differences of religion and class overlapped each other. The Protestants are the ones who are rich and Catholics are usually the poor ones. The religious differences are highlighted by this overlap. This results in conflict between the two religious groups.

    So we can say that a social difference leads to a social division when it matches with other social differences, which in turn serve to heighten the said difference
