Exam scheme and Mode of Selection for SSC’s Competitive Exam for Junior Translators

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct an All India Open Competitive Examination for recruitment of Junior Translators (CSOLS) (Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted) in the pay scale of Rs.9300-34800 with Grade Pay of Rs.4200, in various Offices/Departments under Department of Official Language.

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct an All India Open Competitive Examination for recruitment of Junior Translators (CSOLS) (Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted) in the pay scale of Rs.9300-34800 with Grade Pay of Rs.4200, in various Offices/Departments under Department of Official Language. The total number of vacancies would be declared later. Last date to apply for the vacancy is 5th October, 2012.

The Examination will consist of a written test followed by an Interview for those who clear the written examination.  
While the written examination will be of 400 marks the personality test (interview) will carry 100 marks.

The written examination will be held on 18 November, 2012 and will consist of two papers of 200 marks each. The scheme for written examination will be as under:-

Paper-II (conventional Type) Translation and essay 200 marks

Paper-I will consist of objective type-multiple choice questions only while Paper-II will have long answer questions.  Paper-II shall be evaluated in respect of only those candidates, who attain the minimum qualifying standard in Paper-I or part thereof as may be fixed at the discretion of the Commission.

For recording the answers of Paper-I -- Multiple Choice Objective Type Questions, OMR Type of Answer Sheets will be supplied to candidates by the Commission. Candidates are advised to read very carefully, the instructions given on the OMR sheet, in their own interest.

There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I.

The personality test /Interview would be of maximum 100 marks. Only those candidates who secure minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I and Paper-II of the written examination will be eligible to appear for the interview. The interview will be held at the commission's regional /sub-regional Offices or at any other place as decided by the commission. The commission may at its discretion, fix qualifying marks in paper-II.

NOTE: SC/ST candidates called for interview will be paid TA as per Government Orders.  However, no TA would be paid to any candidate for appearing in the written examination.

Mode of selection: All eligible applicants would be assigned roll numbers and issued Admission Certificates (ACs) -- indicating the time table and venue of examination about two weeks before the date of examination. These would be either communicated to them or placed on the website of the concerned regional office at least two weeks before the date of the examination.

If any candidate does not receive the roll number and admission certificate one week before the date of examination or is unable to download these from the website of the regional office concerned, he/she must immediately contact the concerned Regional/sub regional office(s) of the commission with proof of having submitted his/her application. Failure to do so will deprive him/her of any claim for consideration.   

Mere issuance of roll number and admission certificate does not confirm selection.

Those candidates who secure the minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I and Paper-II of the written examination will be shortlisted for the interview. Candidates will be finally recommended for appointment by the commission on the basis of their aggregate marks in the written examination and interview.  

Note: Candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility conditions for admission to the examination. Their admission at all the stages of examination would be purely provisional, subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. If, on verification, at any time before or after the written examination and Interview, it is found that they do not fulfill any of the eligibility conditions, their Candidature for the examination will be cancelled by the Commission.
