GATE Score Calculation: IISc Bangalore will announce the GATE 2024 score with the result in the online mode. Along with other information, the GATE result contains three major components i.e., GATE score, marks (normalised marks in case of multiple sessions) and rank. The candidates will have to log in through their ID and password to check the GATE result. Every candidate who took the exam must know about the GATE score, marks, rank, and how to calculate these scores.
GATE 2024 Scorecard
Candidates who will qualify for the GATE 2024 exam will be issued the GATE scorecard 2024. The GATE scorecard contains three important components GATE score, marks, and all India rank. Here we will understand these terms one by one and also learn the methods to calculate them. GATE 2024 scorecard will remain valid for THREE years from the date of the announcement of results. But before going to these terms let's quickly have a glance at GATE 2024 marking scheme.
GATE 2024 Marking Scheme
The GATE 2024 exam mainly contains three sections, General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics and core subject (two sections General Aptitude and core subject for AR, CY, DA, EY, GG, MA, PH, ST, XH and XL Papers). There will be 65 questions from these three sections for a total of 100 marks. GATE exam consists of Multiple choice questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) type of questions. The exam duration is 180 minutes. - For every correct answer, 1 or 2 marks will be awarded.
- For every incorrect answer, 1/3 mark of that question will be deducted (only for MCQs).
- No negative marks for MSQ and NAT questions.
GATE Normalised Marks
In GATE 2024, some test papers may be conducted in multiple sessions. For such papers, a suitable normalisation is applied to take into account any variation in the difficulty levels of the question papers across sessions. However, for the candidates who appeared in the single session papers/subjects, actual marks obtained in the subject will be displayed in this field.

The GATE score reflects the relative performance level of the candidate in a test paper. It is calculated out of 1000 as the total marks.

GATE 2024 All India Rank
GATE rank is also known as All India Rank (AIR). This is the position secured by the candidates in the exam at all India level. The AIR shows how well an aspirant performed in comparison to other GATE exam takers. The candidates get their GATE rank within their subject only.
