IAS Main History Question Paper I-1994

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) holds the Civil Services Examination every year in two parts, i.e. Preliminary Test and Main Examination; the Main Examination comprises a written Test and a Personality Test. The Question paper of the IAS Main History Paper I  1994 is given as below:

Time Allowed: Three Hourse

Maximum Marks: 300

Candidates should attempt O. 1 and 5 which are compulsory and any THREE of the remaining question, selecting at least ONE question from each Section. All question carry equal marks.

2. Discuss the pattern of trade during the Indus Valley civilization. How for did it affect the nature of contemporary settlements in the Indian sub-continent?


3. Determine the veracity of Megasthenes’ descriptions of  Indian society and economy with the help of other contemporary evidences.

4. Trace the scientific and technological developments in India up to c.A.D.750.

7. What light do inscriptions and accounts of European travelers throw on the antecedents and legacy of the administrative structure of the Vijayanagara Empire?

8. “Aurangzeb is a much maligned monarch.” Argue the case for and against the proposition.
