IAS Main History Question Paper II- 2001

History is an optional subject available for the Main exam of the UPSC Civil Services Exam. You can find the Question Papers of different years’ UPSC Civil Services Main exams at jagranjosh.com. This is the question paper of History Paper II of IAS Main Examination 2001.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) holds the Civil Services Examination every year in two parts, i.e. Preliminary Test and Main Examination; the Main Examination comprises a written Test and a Personality Test. The Question paper of the IAS Main History Paper II – 2001 is given as below:

PAPER-II-2001

Time Allowed: Three hours

Maximum Marks: 300

Candidates should attempt Question 1 and 5 which are compulsory and any THREE of the remaining question, selecting at least ONE question from each Section.

All question carry equal marks.

SECTION A (Modern India)

1. Comment on any three of the following  statements in about 200 words each:                                20×3=60

(a) ‘Dalhousie changed the map of India with speed and thoroughness no campaign could equal.’

(b) ‘The tribal and peasant rebellion laid the foundation of the revolt of 1857.

(c)  ‘The British industrial policy in the nineteenth century ruined the Indian Handicrafts.’

(d)  ‘The quit India Movement was a spontaneous revolt of the people against British rule.

2. Discuss the main feature of the ‘Raiyatwari Settlement’ in South India. Did it satisfy the aspirations of the peasantry? 60

3. Examine the economic and social factors which led to the rise of Indian nationalism in the second half of the nineteenth century.    60

4. Jawaharlal Nehru was the architect of Indi’s policy of non-alignment. In the light of this statements discuss India’s relations with the two ‘Power Blocks’ between 1947-1964.    60

SECTION B (World History)

5. Comment on any three of the following statements in about 200 words each:     20×3=60

(a) ‘Marxian Communism is primarily the offspring of German Hegelianism and French Socialism.’

(b) “Bismarch created a new Germany with the policy of ‘blood and iron’.”

(c) ‘There was not only a difference of principles at Paris (Please Conference) but a clash of Personalities.’

(d) ‘The decolonization led to the break-up of Empires.’

6.’ The Napoleonic Empire was doomed because of its inherent and self-defeating contribution.’ Elucidate. 60

7. Trace the various stage of European imperialism in Africa in the nineteenth century.    60

8. Discuss the aims of the establishment of the Arab League and assess it role in safeguarding the interests of the Arab

nations.    60
