The Syllabus for the General Studies is very vast and by preparing Ancient History the candidates can assure themselves to fetch good marks in the History section. The IAS Prelims General Studies Paper I has History of India as one of its major components. Within the History section, Ancient History forms an important part.

Studying the Ancient History of the country is very important for becoming a Civil Servant so as to understand what is the historical background of what all is going on at present in the country. Ancient History forms the basic foundation of what we see today around us, in terms of Administrative system, Economic system, Society, Military, etc. It also gives us a detailed insight into the heritage of our country that we all are truly proud of.

It is very important to study the Ancient History Section thoroughly for the exam as a lot of questions have consistently been asked from this section in IAS Prelims exam in the previous years. Around 5-6 questions, on an average have been asked every year from this section. The questions are asked based on various topics like the empires and kings that ruled the country, their administrative and judicial systems, their policies, their downfall, etc. Questions from the Pre history period including the Stone Age, Copper Age, and Indus Valley Civilization have also been frequently asked.

Many candidates commit the mistake of not studying Ancient History for the IAS Prelims. But this can prove disastrous for the exam as quite a lot of questions are asked from Ancient History section in the Prelims exam. These few questions can prove a decisive factor in qualifying the exam.
