IAS Topper 2015 Siddharth Jain shares his IAS Exam Preparation Strategy

IAS Topper 2015 Siddharth Jain, a Mechanical Engineer from IIT Roorkee, has secured 13th rank in UPSC IAS Exam 2015 in his second attempt. His father is a Chartered Accountant and mother is a home maker. A very down to Earth person, he came in simple attire but what an amazing personality. Ready to face the life as it comes and have the liking for fighting with the difficult situations. He said, “Fighting with time and adverse situations is the salt of life”.

He is a very enthusiastic person towards life and the All India Services. In addition to that he is very keen to help others and gave due credit of his success to his friends. He said “Friends are very important part of life and help in releasing the IAS Exam Pressure.
He firmly believes in group discussion as he relies on the Audio Visual Memory of the human beings. He believes in “Honesty is the best Policy”. On the question on creeping corruption in the services itself, he quoted lines from his teacher “District ke Raja bannne ja rahe ho, bhikhari ki tarah haath mat failana”.

Hobbies

He continues to play one or another game daily and also practice Vipashna to keep himself calm. He is trained in Vipassana and recognise its importance its importance in releasing the pressure. He mentioned that meditation helped him a lot to concentrate on his studies.

On IAS Exam Preparation

He had started preparation for UPSC IAS Exam during his the third year of his B. Tech in 2012. He got the motivation to bring change in the Society during his discussions with friends in the IIT itself.
In his first attempt in 2014, he has secured good marks in General Studies and Optional Papers but because of the below average marks in the Essay, he could not make into the final list of selected candidates in UPSC IAS Exam 2014.

He gave equally importance to all the papers of General Studies. He said one should balance between all the GS Papers because all of them are of equal marks. He focused on various tools of study during his preparation and he gave more importance on online study materials available.
He stressed the need of the joining the test series and solving practice papers with the exam like conditions. He said that Exam like condition trains the brain better for the real exam.

Message to the IAS Aspirants

Reading Newspapers and monthly Magazines should be in daily routine of an aspirant. While reading various articles in Newspapers or in Magazine, the aspirant should do self analysis of the various dimensions of the issues and policies. Keeping Notes from newspapers and other article should be the part of preparation. He suggest to prepare Soft notes because they are easy to edit in future and add ons are easier.
He said that the candidates should develop the analytical skills so that they can face the evolving pattern of IAS Exam.
