IIT Roorkee Admission to Post-Graduate, PhD & Post Doctoral Fellowship Programmes 2012-13

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) formerly the University of Roorkee, is a public university located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. Established in 1847, it was given university status in 1949 and in 2001 was converted into an IIT. It invites applications for admission to the various courses mentioned below for the year 2012-13.

  a) M.Tech./M.Arch./M.U.R.P. Degrees: The postgraduate programmes in Engineering and Architecture include 42 full-time programmes in different specializations leading to M.Tech./M.Arch./M.U.R.P. degrees. In addition, the departments of Hydrology and Water Resources Development & Management, also offer PG Diploma programmes
  
  b) M.Sc./M.Tech. (post B.Sc.)/MCA and MBA Degrees: These programmes include 6 courses of study leading to Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Geology, Applied Mathematics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Industrial Mathematics & Informatics and Physics; Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree in Geophysical Technology, and Geological Technology, one interdisciplinary programme leading to Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and another programme leading to Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Eligibility Criteria for admission in IIT Roorkee 2012-13

• Post Graduate Programmes: A minimum aggregate score of 60% or 6.00 CGPA on 10 point scale for General/ OBC candidates and 55% or 5.50 CGPA on 10 point scale for SC/ST/PD candidates at the qualifying degree is essential for all the above programmes. Candidates appearing for the final year of their qualifying examination are also eligible to apply
• PhD Programmes: Masters degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Urban & Rural Planning / Pharmacy / Computer Applications of 3 years duration after graduation in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) where marks are awarded OR Masters degree in Sciences/Humanities & Social Sciences/ Management in respective discipline or equivalent with a valid NET (CSIR/ UGC)/ NET (LS) or valid GATE or valid GPAT score and minimum CGPA of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute where letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks where marks are awarded OR B Tech. / B.Arch. degree or equivalent in respective discipline with excellent academic record (with a minimum CGPA of 7.0 on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 70% marks) and in possession of a valid GATE score.
  
  Note: The admission eligibility requirements may be relaxed to 5.5 on a 10 point scale or equivalent, or to 55% marks to various categories as mentioned in the brochure
• Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) Programmes: Candidates with a PhD degree in Science, Engineering, Humanities or Management with first class in the degree preceeding to Ph.D. with at least two publications in refereed journals. Candidates who have recently submitted their doctoral thesis are also eligible to apply subject to the condition that they will furnish the proof of award of PhD degree at the time of interview

Selection Procedure for admission in IIT Roorkee 2012-13

• Post Graduate Programmes: Admission will be made on the basis of either Normalized GATE Marks only or Normalized GATE Marks and Interview/Written Test. For Sponsored candidates the admission will be on the basis of Interview/Written Test and relevant experience. There will be cut off on Normalized GATE marks for calling the candidates for Interview/Written Test and/or for preparing merit list for different programmes for different categories of candidates. B.Tech. degree holders from IITs with minimum CGPA of 8.00 on 10 point scale will also be eligible for admission with MHRD assistantship without GATE and will be given admission directly.
• Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) Programmes: The candidates called for interview shall make a presentation of their research plan before the selection committee in the concerned academic department. The selection committee shall interview the candidates and discuss their research plan in detail

How to Apply for admission in IIT Roorkee 2012-13: For admission to PG/Ph.D.programmes 2012 candidates need to register and fill the application ONLINE only by accessing http://pgadm.iitr.ernet.in  For PDF, candidate can apply offline only by downloading application form from the Institute Website.
Application Fee

• Post Graduate Programmes: Application fee for General/ OBC category candidate is Rs 400 + 100* and fee for SC/ ST/ OD candidates is Rs 200 + 100*. Rs 100 will be charged for each additional department
• PhD Programmes and Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) Programmes: Rs 200 will be charged from all categories candidates. Separate application must be sent for separate departments/centres and for each department/centre separate fees will be required with each completed application form

The candidates for admission to PG/ PhD/ PDF Programmes are required to download Bank Challan Proforma from the website mentioned above and then deposit the requisite fee in any branch of Punjab National Bank throughout the country. The Bank Challan will be printed in triplicate and candidates are required to pay the fees through it. Bank will retain a copy and will return two copies to you. In those two copies, retain the Candidate's copy with you and attach the IITR's copy with the application form. The Fee will not be accepted through any other mode.
