Is MBA necessary to become Investment Banker?

    Investment banks help the corporations and municipalities to raise capitals for their funding in carrying out various operations around their territory. Investment banks thus provide an opportunity to collect the capital amount for business. Investment bankers chip in as manpower responsible for finding buyers for securities like bonds or stocks for raising the capital that the organization needs. They underwrite securities and usher corporations with ideas and initiatives that might help in the long run. They offer their expertise on how to make the public offering or deal with mergers and acquisitions for their clients. The investment bankers thus need to be professionally skilled and have adequate knowledge of the financial market that they are working in.     Many think that an influential degree of MBA in finance or Marketing would earn them a brighter future as an Investment banker. But this is a myth which needs to get out from the heads of thousands of such aspirants. Investments bankers could be seen belonging from varied educational backgrounds with interest in mathematics and love for numbers. Any candidate having Bachelor Degree in Finance, Accounting or Mathematics or any other field of studies can rise up to become investment banker. The only thing that can shape an aspiring candidate to professional investment banker is experience and training. The best way to start gaining knowledge about the field is to get training from any institute after completing your Graduation Degree. The candidates can begin as analysts in various small and marginal firms learning the craft of investment banking. They could undergo some training programmes offered by various accounting and finance institutes in the country as well to know the basics of accounting, risk markets, financial statement analysis and the financial modeling. An internship with a good company of repute in the financial market after completing your training might help you before you plan to start your own firm. Though MBA cannot assure you a brighter future as an investment banker, it can certainly provide you with adequate knowledge of the trade. Law is another such field of study that helps while the candidates are training for their investment banking career.

    Prospects of Investment Banking

    Interested candidates, willing to join investment banking as career option, can do that as soon as they earn their Bachelor Degree as analysts or associates in any investment banking firm. Those candidates who have successfully built there network in the field through family members, friends and acquaintances could rise up the ladder and end up finding a suitable job in the investment banking sector. With further educational qualification and two to three years of relevant working experience candidates can advance to associate positions of repute. Associates can quickly rise up to the level of vice presidents at their banks under whom the analysts and associates would work. With time and experience candidates can become directors or principals at their respective banks and develop relationship with their clients. The highest level to be achieved is of Managing Director in this field where they would be responsible for bringing in business for the company.
