IIT JEE Main Examination is just less than one week away. This Exam consists of 90 questions divided in three sections – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each section has 30 questions.
JEE Main Exam is designed not only to check ones’ analytical and intellectual abilities but also requires ability to perform in adverse conditions, choice making, pressure handling etc. Every aspirant wants to maximize his score. Also, each correct attempt will give you 4 marks irrespective of easy or tough question. So, the most important thing we should keep in mind while attempting question paper is not to miss easy questions in any case.
1. Read the paper carefully
The first and foremost thing while attempting JEE Main 2018 question paper is to go through complete paper quickly and assess overall difficulty level of questions. Choose most easy questions from the paper and attempt them first. If you are attempting paper in offline mode you can make a small circle on the question number for easy questions. In online mode also there is an option for Mark and Review to mark question.
2. First go for easy, then for moderate and finally for tough
IIT JEE Main Examination is a moderate-level examination. So, you can get many easy questions in this paper. In this approach you can go through the complete paper in three cycles. In first cycle attempt easy questions, in second cycle attempt moderate questions and in last cycle go for tough questions.
Also, keep a close eye on your watch. For easy question do not give more than one minute. Also, for moderate questions do not spend more than 3-4 minutes. If it takes more than the required time it is better to skip it.
3. Choose your favorite subject first
Another approach can be, once you have attempted relatively easier and moderate questions, you must attempt the rest of the question paper in a sequence. While following sequence it is recommended that you choose your strongest subject first and in last you choose your weakest subject.
This method is tested and has its own advantages:
The first advantage is that since you have solved easy questions first, a large number of questions are out of the way and you have also gained a lot of marks in a short span of time. It also helps in building your confidence.
The second advantage is that if you run short of time then those questions will be left which you find very difficult.
4. Choosing Chemistry first and then going for favorite subject
Another approach to attempt JEE Main 2018 question paper is to attempt Chemistry first and then attempt either Mathematics or Physics sections. This strategy of attempting paper has many merits.
In any engineering entrance examinations Chemistry, as a subject, offers the highest scoring potential, even if it’s your weakest subject. There are few numerical in this subject and lots of stuff is memory based. Most of the questions are binary in nature i.e. you either know the answer or you do not know it. So there is no wastage of time in thinking proper method to solve the question.
This approach saves time for Mathematics and Physics section which require lot of calculation. After finishing Chemistry section of the paper go for that section of paper in which you feel more comfortable.
5. Make Subject wise strategies
You can also make subject wise strategies. This is also a very good approach. In a particular subject every student has his favorite topics. Try to solve questions from those topics first, so that you can get confidence and maximize your number of attempts. Consider Mathematics; some people are very good in calculus so they first attempt questions from Calculus. Similarly, for each subject they have their favorite topics which they can attempt first.
6. Keep Rough Work Clean and Safe
Your rough work is very important for revision. Often we ignore the role of rough work in paper solving.
Your rough work should be clear and legible. Also, mark the question corresponding to the solution. It helps in your revision work. Use little space for rough work. Also, keep vacant spaces in your paper for back up because you do not get extra sheet for rough work in offline exam.
In IIT JEE Main Examination options are too close. If you tend to do small error in your calculation then you might reach at wrong option and can lose 5 marks for this. So, revision work is very important and it helps you to save approximately 20-30 marks.
7. Time Management
Time management is very important in IIT JEE Main 2018 Examination. In online exam there is clock on the server but in offline examination you must take watch with you so that you can keep track of time. Also track the time 3-4 time in between the paper. After each cycle check the time spent and match it with allotted time. Remember, in IIT JEE Main Paper high attempt rate and accuracy both matters.
