The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is scheduled to be conducted on 2, 3, 9 and 10 February in two shifts. The timing of forenoon shift will be from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, while the afternoon shift will be conducted from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The duration of the exam will be of 3 hours. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in fully computer based test mode. The exam will be conducted for 24 subjects (papers). A candidate can appear for only one paper. A total of 65 questions will be asked in GATE 2019. With only 5 days left for GATE 2019, students are becoming very nervous about their exam. A lot of students want to know about the tips and strategies to be followed in this short time. Here, we are providing some important tips which will help you to crack GATE 2019 with a good score.
1. Revision is very important:
Revision is very necessary for students because it helps to retain different formulae and concepts in brain and recall the same while writing the exam.
2. Focus only on study notes/revision notes:
Study only through self made study notes or revision notes. Students will easily get all important concepts, formulae and tricks at one place. It will also save your precious time.
3. Don’t study any new topics now:
If you start studying any new topic now, you will only get confused. Don’t be over confident about the topics you already have studied. Practice more and more questions based on those topics and improve your speed and accuracy.
4. Attempt more and more Mock tests:
Use previous year’s question papers as mock tests to check your preparedness, paper pattern and difficulty level. As students take more and more mock test, they improve each time and score better. Their speed and accuracy increase with more practice and they do their best. It increases their success rate in the entrance exam as compared to the aspirants who don’t take the mock tests.
5. Stay motivated:
Staying motivated is a difficult task. Many a times it happens that while solving sample papers you are not able to solve a particular problem even after spending more than the required time on that particular question or you are not able to attempt sufficient number of questions in the paper. In such situations you feel tensed and depressed. Don’t take tension it’s just an exam. You have prepared well for it and you will definitely crack it.
How to attempt GATE 2019?
The exam will start on the scheduled time after completing all the formalities. Students who are going to appear first time for a computer based test can follow the tips given below to score good marks in the exam.
- Read all the instructions very carefully.
- Make strategies only after reading the complete question paper.
- Read the complete question before attempting it.
- Note all the values very carefully in your rough sheet.
- Use Save & Mark for Review when you have any doubt.
- Don’t panic in case of computer failure.

Question Types | Description |
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) | Each question will be of 1 or 2 marks in all the papers and sections. Students will have to select the correct answer out of the four answers. Note: There will be a negative marking. For 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. For 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. |
Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions | Each question will be of 1 or 2 marks in all the papers and sections. For these questions, the answer is a signed real number, which needs to be entered by the candidate using the virtual numeric keypad on the monitor (keyboard of the computer will be disabled). Note: There will no negative marking. |
