1. Intriguing Triangle Types: A Classification Project for Class 9 Maths

This project will help the students to know about different types of triangles.

Materials Required

Cardboard or thick craft paper, Straws or craft sticks, String or yarn, Ruler, Protractor (optional), Markers, crayons, paint, Scissors, Glue

Steps Required

  • Take cardboard or a piece of craft paper and make a colourful chart with sections for different triangle classifications.
  • Use straws to construct different types of triangles and you can use your creativity for different lengths.
  • For right-angled triangles, you can use protractor. Now, label each triangle with its properties.
  • To make the project look more enhanced, you can include pictures and drawings of bridges, roofs or other architectural structures that depend on the application of various triangles.

2. Representing Your Number Neighborhood: A Number Line Project

Materials Required

A long roll of chart paper, Ruler, Markers or paint, Colored pencils or crayons (optional)

Steps Required

  • Unroll the paper and lay it flat on a large workspace. Now, draw a horizontal line with an arrow pointing to the right on each end.
  • This will represent that the line is extending infinitely on both sides.
  • Make a centre point and write ‘0’ on it and label the right side with increasing positive numbers while the left with negative numbers.
  • Choose different categories of numbers to represent on your line. Mark whole numbers with whole numbers as Integers or mark the decimals with coloured pencils.
  • You can also add pictures showcasing real-life examples of these numbers.

3. Unveiling the Cartesian Plane: A Project for Class 9 Coordinate Geometry

Materials Required

Large whiteboard or bulletin board (or a large sheet of craft paper), Markers or paint, Coloured string or yarn, Ruler, Scissors (optional), Magnets or pushpins (optional), Pictures or cutouts from magazines (optional)

Steps Required

  • On a large piece of cardboard paper, draw a bold vertical line intersecting bold horizontal points at their mid-points.
  • Label the horizontal and the vertical lines as the x-axis and y-axis.
  • Make equal units across both axes and this will create a grid system.
  • Use the concept of ordered pairs (x,y) to locate points on the plane.
  • Students can use the markers to locate different points with different coordinates.
  • Now, use coloured string or yarn to connect points on the plane to create lines, segments or simple shapes.

 4. Probability in Everyday Life: A Class 9 Project

Materials Required

Large presentation board or trifold display, Construction paper or coloured cardstock in various colours, Markers, crayons, or coloured pencils, Dice (various types - regular 6-sided, 10-sided, etc.) (optional), Coins (optional), Spinner template (optional - you can create your own with different sections), Calculator (optional), Pictures from magazines or printed from the internet (optional)

Steps Required

  • Divide your presentation board into three sections, Introduction, Probability Games, and Real-World Applications.
  • Introduction: Title this section as ‘What Is Probability?’
  • Define probability in simple terms and explain all theoretical concepts.
  • Discuss in detail the meaning of sample space and events.
  • Probability Games: Title this section as: ‘Let’s Play With Probability’
  • Tossing the coin: Flip a coin and record the heads and tails for 10-20 trials. Calculate the probability of each outcome. Compare it to the probability obtained from your trials.
  • Dice Roll: Roll a dice and record the outcomes for 10-15 trials and then calculate the probability just like you did in tossing the coin.
  • You can try other real-life challenges as well.
  • Real World Applications: Title the section as ‘Probability in real-world’.
  • You can use the example of weather forecasting where you can define how meteorologists use probability to predict the climate.
  • You can also discuss how sports games are based on the probability of winning and losing.

5. Unlocking the Power of Pythagoras: Exploring the Theorem through Proof, Applications, and Fun!

Materials Required

Presentation board, Construction paper/markers, Scissors/glue, Rulers/string (optional), Pictures/magazines (optional)

Steps Required

  • Define the theorem with a formula and make a diagram of it as well.
  • Showcase proofs using cutouts of shapes and rearrangement of shapes.
  • Show real-life applications with pictures like finding the ladder length and explain how a theorem can be used to find the length of the ladder.
  • You can also create puzzles with missing side lengths in right triangles for classmates to solve using the theorem.
  • Explain each section and demonstrate the proofs.
