In a recent meeting of its Academic Council, the Karnataka University has decided to offer Ph. D in music and fine arts to let students pursue higher studies in arts and make academic career in the field.
Following this move, the PhD programs in drawing and painting will start from the academic year 2013-14. To meet the requirement of eligible research guides for such programs, the university will arrange for the guides or co-guides from other universities or institutes.
During the meeting, the proposals regarding closing down of Arts course at IBMR Arts and Commerce College of Hubli and BSc Microbiology course at JSS Banashankari Arts and Commerce and Shantikumar Gubbi Science College of Dharwad, were also got approval. The heads of these institutes had sought the university's permission to close down the courses from academic year 2013-14, said the registrar of the university.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, H B Walikar, presided over the meeting that was attended by the heads from various departments of the university.
