A study by Aspiring Minds (AM), a Gurgaon based Assessment Firm, has brought up some interesting facts to the management world. Titled as Practical Intelligence in top B-Schools in India, the assessment report by AM is based on an empirical study on the practical intelligence of fresh MBA graduates from top B-Schools of the country.
In this study, the fresh MBA graduates from top B-schools in India are assessed by using Situation Judgment Tests (SJTs). The SJT tested them under strenuous and complex psychological situations that they are expected to encounter with at their workplaces. Then, the performances of the freshers were compared with those already having corporate experiences in order to check the gap areas.
The findings of the study are quite bleak, showing a wide gap in mid-level managerial skills of management graduates when compared to the experienced professionals. The report, Practical Intelligence in top B-Schools in India, raises some major questions like: Is practical business knowledge imparted in our B-schools, Is the aspect of practical intelligence really crucial in management roles, etc., to analyze further.
