Punjab Government Announced Education Allowances for the Children of Laborers

    The Punjab government announced that the Children of laborers who are registered under Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board are entitled to receive education allowances. The amount of allowance that they can avail is to range between Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000, for each eligible individual.

    A spokesperson at the event confirmed, that ‘School attending children’ of the parents who work as labor are also eligible to take advantage of an uniform allowance ranging between Rs 800-1000 each, besides the education allowance. Distributing bicycles to such beneficiary students who study in class IX to XII is also decided and sanctioned by the state government.

    The decision was approved in a meeting of Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board, headed by Punjab Labour Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat, informed an official representative.

    The Punjab government is endeavoring to revive and promote education in the state for which 2013-14 budget had also allotted Rs 244 billion separate. With promoting education among people, the maintenance of discipline in educational institution is also among many objectives. Private institutions are also expected to benefit from the 244 billion allotted budget amount, for Education upliftment. The promotion of fine arts and other extracurricular activities is also to be enhanced in the state.

    In the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha session, the Punjab Regulation of Fees of Unaided Educational Institutions Bill-2014 is also likely to get tabled once the state cabinet approve.
