Established in Calcutta on 1 April 1935, Reserve bank of India was privately owned bank which was governed by the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. It was only in 1937, that the base of the bank was permanently shifted to Mumbai. The nationalisation in 1949 led to its full control by the Government of India. The bank has 22 regional offices and six training establishments. Its basic function is to advise the Central Board on local matters and to represent territorial and economic interests of local cooperative and indigenous banks. Reserve Bank of India has invited applications for the post of Research Officer in Grade ‘B’ for Department of Economic and Policy Research (DEPR).

Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Master's Degree in Economics (with any area of specialization) with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade from a recognized Indian or Foreign University/ Institute OR
- Doctorate Degree in Economics with Master's Degree in any subject with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade from a recognized Indian or Foreign University/ Institute.
Note: ST candidates having second class with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade in Master's Degree examination or equivalent recognized qualification are eligible to apply.
Desirable Qualification: Research or teaching experience in Economics or publications in standard journals would be considered as an additional qualification.

Pay Scale: Basic pay of Rs 21,000 pm in the scale of Rs 21000-1000-30000-EB-1000-32000-1100-36400. Initial monthly Gross emoluments for Research Officer in Gr. ‘B’ DR are Rs 38,853 (approx.).
The Cost to the Company (CTC) attached to the post works out to Rs 10 Lakhs per annum (approx.) including pay, perks and market value of housing in Mumbai. The package, perks are subject to change.
Application Fee: Application fee and postal charges for General and OBC candidates is Rs 100 and no fee is charged from candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ PWD category.
Selection Procedure
The selection procedure for candidates applying for Research Officer is through the following procedure.
- Written Test- It will consist of three papers each of 100 marks and 3 hours duration.
a) Objective Type (Economics)
b) Descriptive Type (Economics)
c) English- Descriptive - Interview
How to Apply
Online
- The candidate can apply ON-LINE using the link http://onlinedr.rbi.org.in.
- A candidate must purchase the DD or IPO for Rs 100 (except SC/ST/PWD candidates who are exempted from payment of fees).
- Take a printout (hard copy) of their on-line application after submission of the data through the system.
- Paste a signed photograph (not to be stapled) at the specified place on the printout and the candidate must sign on the printout of the application and attach DD or IPO of Rs 100.
- Send the system generated print out (hard copy) of the Online Application to the Reserve Bank of India Services Board’s Office (RBISB) by ordinary post.
Off-Line
- The candidates must apply in the Application format which can be typed or neatly handwritten in Hindi or English on a good quality “White A- 4 size” paper.
- Off-Line Application or printout of the On-Line Application (hard copy), as the case may be, have to be sent by ordinary post to “The General Manager, Reserve Bank of India Services Board, Post Bag No. 4618, Mumbai Central Post Office, Mumbai-400008” The cover should be super-scribed “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF RESEARCH OFFICERS IN GRADE ‘B’ for DEPR”.
- The off-line Application or printout of the on-line Application (hard copy), in closed cover, may also be deposited in the box specially kept for the purpose at “Reserve Bank of India, Opposite Mumbai Central Railway Station, Mumbai Central, Mumbai 400 008”.
Note: Candidates should apply either by on-line mode (followed up by sending a printout of the online application) or off-line mode. They should not submit application by both the modes. Duplicate applications will be rejected.
