In 2016, SSC had announced that the entry through CGL will be completely based on online exam. Apart from this, whole exam pattern was also changed by introducing 4 tiers in it as there will be no provision for interviewing candidates. Later, SSC has changed the exam mode of all examinations to online from offline. Before appearing in the exam, there are few important things that you should remember.

What is online Examination?

In online examination, all questions will appear on a computer allotted to each candidate at the examination venue and candidates have to mark their answers by clicking on it. There are several things that you can face at the exam center.

  1. Unlike offline exam, only one question will appear at a time. So, you can answer only one question at a time. You can skip question if you want and also mark it for review.
  2. A time limit will be given in which you have to answer all the questions.
  3. All questions would be in Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) format.
  4. After completing exam, you have to click Submit button to submit the Test. In case, if you are not able to submit it. It will be submitted automatically as the allotted time is over.

What is offline Exam?

It is also referred as the paper based examination. It has the following characteristics-

  1. Questions in this exam can be subjective type or objective type.
  2. Candidates have access to more questions and candidates can solve any question as per his convenience.
  3. After solving questions, candidates are required to mark the answers in answer sheet with a rounded black dot.
  4. All marked answers cannot be altered.

1. SSC requires fewer resources in organizing exams and producing results.

Whereas offline exam requires a lot of papers in manipulating and displaying results from papers to online media.

2. It is less expensive because of less engagement of resources.

It is much expensive than the online exam.

3. It does not involve time taking OMR sheets filling and wrong answers can be altered at any time.

Whereas, it involves OMR sheet in which all answers are recorded & there is no scope for alteration of wrong answer to the right ones.

4. There is a possibilities of having technical glitches like turning off the power, Internet connectivity issues and hardware problems et.

Whereas, offline examination has no such irregularities.

5. Candidates may feel uncomfortable due to lack in familiarity with the online examination.

offline exam is more comfortable to appear and qualify.

6. Questions can be marked for reviewing so that candidate can look after the questions whenever he supposes to do.

It is not possible in offline for reviewing and altering the answers after marking question as you can review it but can’t alter it.
