The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) has been ranked on top in the field of Social Science among the leading Business & Management research institutes of India, says a study conducted by Prof. Sharique Hasan of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.
The institutes of India were ranked on the basis of productivity brought in the field of social science research.
The universities were listed in categories as mentioned in the following order: Sociology, Demography & Family studies, Economics, Psychology, and Business and Management.
In the Business and Management category, IIM-B stood first, whereas the second position was captured by Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
IIM-Calcutta, the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad both received third position, while the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon stood fourth.
For the sociology, demography and family studies category the Bangalore’s other institutes such as Institute of Social and Economic change and National Institute of Advanced Studies were granted position 16th and 31st respectively.
The factors for determining the ranks resulted from the total number of peer-reviewed articles produced by an institute along with the number of quotations each article received.
As informed by the sources from Stanford, the raw data and records which were considered for the rankings were obtained from ISI Web of Knowledge. The raw data comprised any article published in one of the 3015 journals of Social science which were indexed by ISI. The other obvious criteria to assess the data were that author should be affiliated to a University or institute belonged to India and must have published their articles in between the year 2000 till 2010.
