Uttar Pradesh Govt to Assess Dropout Rate in Primary Schools in the State

Uttar Pradesh is going to embark on assessment of the number of dropouts from primary schools in the state, announced UP government on 3 December 2013 in the Assembly.

"We will inquire the rate of dropouts from schools," said the basic education minister of state, Ram Govind Chowdhury in a response to a query in the House.

The school dropout rate of children aged 6-17 years in the state was recorded 10.3 per cent in an annual health survey conducted during the 2010-11 Census, revealed Chowdhury.

While discussing the figures till date, he said that the dropout rate has reduced to 8.4 per cent, and the government has been taking initiatives to check it out for the current peroid.
