University Grants Commission (UGC) has agreed to include Yoga in the NET exam subject list. Now, candidates with graduate and postgraduate degree in Yoga can appear for National Eligibility Test (NET) and be eligible for teaching and research fellowships in leading universities and colleges.

Though exactly not ascertained, Yoga is likely to be included within the June 2017 NET exam. CBSE conducts NET exam twice a year.

The Committee headed by Yoga Guru HR Nagenddra, VC Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana Bengaluru proposed to include Yoga in NET in order to make it one of the promising career options.

Near about 50 universities had sent proposal for listing Yoga in NET exam. Increasing number of Yoga departments in Universities has hampered the education due to lack of teachers. Though every year candidates are getting postgraduate degree in Yoga, but they are unable to join any University because NET was not conducted for the subject. Enlisting Yoga in NET exam will help the postgraduates to join universities and colleges as faculties.

In addition to this, Yoga departments will be opened in six central universities.
