England cricket team defeated host Australia to win the Ashes series.

Andrew Strauss led England cricket team defeated host Australia in the final Sydney test that concluded on 7 January 2011 and thus claimed the first Ashes series in 24 years. England wrapped up an innings and 83-run victory early on the last day after victory was assured when it had Australia seven wickets down on 6 January’s close. The Australian team was led by Ricky Ponting except for the last test match which was led by Michael Clarke. England won the Ashes for the first time after Mike Gatting's team beat Australia 2-1 in 1986-87.
