Bumblebees are close to extinction in USA, according to a report released on 3rd January 2011, by the US researchers led by Sydney Cameron of Illinois University.The report on Bumblebees showed a 96 percent decline in the number of its four species and pointed out parasites, viruses, fungi and use of pesticides as the reasons behind its decline.
Bumblebees are important agriculturally because it helps to pollinate blueberries, tomatoes and cranberries and increase their production. Several species of bumblebees are involved in prairies and with high alpine vegetations in USA. Bumblebees are not disappearing fast only in USA but also in other parts of the world like Asia and Europe.
The word Pollinate means to transfer pollen grains from one flower to another flower in order to facilitate the process of seed production.
