The Central Bank of India on 15 November 2010 launched the Artisan Credit Cards scheme with an objective to provide loans to potters under an initiative of the South Asia Foundation, a non-governmental organisation. The Artisan Credit Cards were handed over to the first batch comprising 70 potters. The credit cards will enable them to access to emergency financial requirement up to Rs.2 lakh. The cards holders will also be able to avail housing finance at a subsidized rate for constructing house-cum-work-shed.
The South Asia Foundation (SAF) is working for the overall development of around 700 potters and their families settled at Kumhaargram in New Delhi. The potters and their families from Alwar in Rajasthan came and settled in Delhi and settle following the 1968 drought that had resulted in severe shortage of water in the region.
