International Yoga Day 2024: Theme
International Yoga Day has a different theme every year, which centers the festivities and events around a different facet of yoga.
"Yoga for Self and Society" is the Yoga 2024 theme. Yoga offers a comprehensive approach to health and well-being that helps us find balance again in our hectic lives. The idea is to present yoga as a movement that enhances resilience and advances everyone's well-being in the community.
History of International Yoga Day
Yoga has always been a popular form of exercise in foreign nations. But it was not until 2014 when PM Modi submitted a motion at the 69th session of the UN General Assembly, that World leaders realized the true strength of Yoga. The assembly unanimously voted to celebrate International Yoga Day every year.
The day for International Yoga Day was chosen to be the day of summer solstice- the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere- as a symbol of light and health. June 21, 2015, marked the first-ever International Day of Yoga.
