Dalia Grybauskaite, the Iron Lady of Lithuania, on 25 May 2014 won the Presidential elections of Lithuania.
Dalia Grybauskaite, the Iron Lady of Lithuania, on 25 May 2014 won the Presidential elections of Lithuania. As a result she became the first person to serve as the President of Lithuania for consecutive second term. She served the first term as President from 2009 to 2014 as the term of President of Lithuania is five years.
In the second round of counting of votes, she emerged victorious by winning 58 percent of votes over her rival Zigmantas Balcytis of Social Democrat who garnered 42 percent votes.
She fought the Presidential election as an independent candidate and focused her campaign on national security. She is a former EU Budget Chief
She fought the elections amid the concerns in the Baltic nations like Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia that the annexation of Crimea by Russia is a symbol of vortex of threats of being destabilized. All these three nations are the members of NATO and European Union with Russian speaking minorities.
