Delhi MCD Election 2017 results

The results of the three Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections 2017 was declared on 26 April 2017. The three corporations for which the elections were held on 23 April 2017 includes North Delhi Municipal Corporation, East Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

The results of the 270 wards of three Municipal Corporations election have delivered a huge win for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who has been ruling the corporations for past 10-years. However, it has triggered introspection in AAP and Congress, who emerged at second and third position respectively.

BJP was able to secure 184 seats, which were 46 more than its existing strength. In 2012, it had 138 seats in its kitty.
Tickets to new faces instead of the sitting cooperators would have helped BJP to increase the number of seats in its kitty. Tickets to new faces instead of the sitting one was earlier used by PM Narendra Modi in Gujarat when he was serving the state as its Chief Minister.

On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that in 2015 won 67 of the 70 seats in assembly elections came a distant second with 46 seats in all the three Delhi Municipal corporations. Congress was able to secure 30 seats.

A total of over 2500 candidates were in the fray whose political fate was known after the declaration of the results of the MCD polls. The polling saw a voter turnout of 53.58 per cent that was marginally higher than 2012 figure of 53.43.

The election was crucial for all the three major political contenders BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party.
